If you format you will loose the cd rom drivers, so make sure you have a boot or
start up disk with cd rom support.

Well that is exactly the problem I have.
I want to install Windows 95 on an old machine I found somewhere (a Pentium 1, 75
MHz) but I don't have a bootdisk with the CD-drivers for Windows 95.
I do have one for Windows 98. But when trying to install Win95 using that disk it
just won't let me.
Can anyone help me out on this problem, telling me what exactly I need on that bootdisk?
Or maybe where I can get the data I need?
TIA
Steven

Start the machine with the 98 boot disk in the drive and the cd rom should be enabled
when it starts. Insert the 95 cd and type d:\ and hit enter. Type cd:\win95 and
hit enter, type setup and hit enter. Windows 95 install does not autorun, you have
to start it. Also, if your 95 cd is a "Companion" disk you can not do an install
with it as some of the necessary files are intentionally left out. ( cd:\ is the
change directory switch for DOS, it has nothing to do with the CD drive ) Also if
the drive has been formatted, you may need to install the dos files on it. From the
a:\ prompt with the floppy in the drive type: sys c: and hit enter.

I'm having the same problem, but my computer won't boot using the 98 boot disk (I
get the "non-system disk error"). What can I try next?

Will it let you change to the C: or D: drive by typing C:\ or D:\ and hitting enter

You can download a win98SE boot disk which you can copy to floppy and use, it will
have the cd rom driver
Cheers!
