Question about 'What to do about error messages during Windows startup'

I have a question about What to do about error messages during Windows startup:

When starting W95 normally the system hangs and then comes up with a message "Disk error trying to write to drive C". However, it starts ok in safe mode and there doesn't seems to be any problem in reading or writing files to C: via explorer. Any ideas please?

Sounds like a problem with an IDE controller, as Safe mode uses MS-DOS compatability mode for disk reads and writes. In safe mode open device manager and click the plus for hard drive controllers. Click on each and click remove. Restart in normal mode. If it asks to restart keep telling in no as it may need to find and install more than one device. When it is done, and setting in the desk top with no hard drive activity, Restart the computer BEFORE you do anything else.
