Strange that the MSFT folks would tell you to delete systray but.!!! You can find
out which cab file ( cabinet file, which is a compressed file set ) it is in by
using the following method to search the CD, or the windows\options\cabs file on
the machine. Click Start, Find, type in *.cab and then click the Advanced tab. Type
in systray.exe and then click find now. The computer will show you which cab file
it is in. You will need Winzip ( you can almost always find a copy of winzip on a
CD from an ISP, or download a working trial version from Niko Mac Computing. Or do
a Google search for WinZip ) or another decompression utility to extract the file.
When you find it, it lives in the C:\windows\system folder. ( or subdirectory to
be exact ) After you place it there, click Start, Run, type regedit and click Ok.
In the panel that opens click the plus signs by HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft,
Windows, Current Version and then scroll down to Run. Click once on Run, Then with
the mouse in the right hand panel, right click a blank space, select new, select
Dword, then click ok. Then right click the new value, click Rename and name it SystemTray
( exactly as I typed it ) and click ok. Then right click the newly named SystemTray
and select modify. In the box that opens type: systray.exe and then click ok. Close
regedit and restart the machine.
