Greetings, After many years and many ISP's, I am trying to clean up my machine. I have a stubburn icon on my desktop that won't go away. When I click on it, it has conection manager as it's heading and says my service profile is damaged and to reinstall it. I see that I can delete the conection manager under install and remove programs. My question: Is connection manager related to dial up network? I am using DUN to connect to the internet so don't want to mess with that. This icon has been a real anoyance for many a year. Thanks for your help Rick

I would drag the icon to the recycle bin and then see if everythign operates correctly. If so, uninstall the program. I've never seen "Connection Manager" on any of my machines, only the Internet Connection Wizard . ( which I never use )

Well that was painless enough. But that anoying icon is still there. Windows won't allow it to be put in the recycle bin. Thanks for the quick reply. Rick

Use explorer and open the c:\windows\desktop folder and delete it from there.

I should be so luck that it would be that easy. Unfortunately it is not in the desktop folder. I'm sure this is one of those MS things that is tucked away in the bowels of Windows. Sort of like My Computer or Network Neighborhood. My guess would be somewhere in the registry. Thanks. Rick
