Question about 'Using .CAB Files'

I have a question about Using
.CAB Files:
I am trying install windows 95 from the 31/2 floppy disk. There is about 13 disks
that are needed in order to install the OS. Every time I get to disk 2, I get a
message "Could not decompress this Setup (.CAB) file. Setup cannont continue. Click
OK to quit Setup" Help Please. I have been working on this for days and days!!!!!
I am trying to install it on a Sony Vaio PCG-C1VN. Thanks

Most of the 13 installation disks are in .CAB format, the computer doesn't seem to
be able to decompress the files into a temp file. I have tried two different sets
of disks.

Aah, Ok. cab files are nothing more than cabinets, or containers of compressed files.
After you formatted the drive did you re-install the DOS level system files on the
hard drive? To make sure, boot with a start up disk and at the A:\> prompt type:
sys C: and press enter. When it's done, remove the floppy, reboot and try the install
again.

Ok, I will try it tomorrow at work. Just wondering though, what file(s) are used
that decompresses the files? And what files should I see after run the .sys command?

I tried using that command, but I get a "Bad command or file name" message. I first
deleted all existing partitions and then created a new one. The boot disk picked
it up and formatted it. I typed in "sys c:" from A:\>

Are you running the command with a windows Start up disk in the floppy drive?? It
requires a Win95 or Win98 Start up disk.

Have a similar situation with the 13 disk set of Win95. Turned out to be contamination
with the Stoned virus, possibly from the DOS set. Neither McAffee or AVG have been
able to clean the disks. I'll let you know if I find an answer, but in the meantime
I'm looking for good copies of the first two disks.

Same answer as all the rest of this same question

There are sets of the 13 Floppy W95 install being sold on a regular basis via eBay
and similar auction sites. If any illegal copies are being offered anywhere on the
internet, you'll have to find those sites on your own. Annoyances makes it official
policy to discourage such software piracy.
The thread you unearthed at the Annoyances Win95 forum is over two years old now,
so the party you replied to has long since gone on his way.

She needs to buy it. Or you do, as a present for her.

I'm having trouble running windows 95 setup

I was running the floppy setup, it runs fine until disk 5. I looked on my other other
computer and the disk seems to be blank and missing win95_05.cab. How can i get it?
Is it also stored on the hard drive where I could copy it? What should I do???

Hi Justin:
If your disk #5 is stored on your hard drive, you
can use DOS to copy it off onto a floppy --
--EXCEPT--
In Bill Gates's infinite wisdom (and cost
consciousness), he used specially formatted
floppies which held 1.7MB instead of the usual
1.4MB.
You can make special 1.7MB floppies using these
programs:
