Probably far too obvious but have you got a non system disk in the floppy drive? If not and the system is telling you that it can't read the boot hard drive then do you have a floppy boot disk? Has anyone been fiddling with the BIOS boot sequence settings?

Boot with a startup floppy disk and at the prompt, type: C and press enter. If the
C:\> prompt comes up, type DIR and press enter. You should get a list of folder and
files on the drive. If so, then at the A: prompt type fdisk/mbr. You may have to
also type: SYS C That will copy system files to the hard drive to make it bootable.

You should get message that the files have been copied. Remove the disk and reboot.
FYI, the command "fdisk/mbr" will rewrite the master boot record.

Colon is missing after C twice.

fdisk /mbr only works with 95B ( OSR2 ) and above. ;-)

You can create a startup disk right in Windows in Add/Remove programs in the Control
Panel. There's a tab that says Startup disk. All you need is a blank floppy disk,
then click "create disk" and follow the prompts.

Alternatively, you can download one at http://www.bootdisk.com.
Just be sure it's the correct one for your version 95.

Bott the machine with the boot disk in the floppy drive. At the A:\ prompt type: sys c and press enter. Remove the floppy and reboot.

I have the same problem. I decided to reformat my son's computer; backed up everything
with drivers, boot-up disks, etc.,. After doing the "dump", nothing will work.
There is no prompt whatsoever. Only two messages:

With no disk inserted:
"INVALID SYSTEM DISK. REPLACE THE DISK, AND THEN PRESS ENTER."

With floppy boot disk and/or Windows 95 Disk:
"REMOVE DISKS OR OTHER MEDIA. PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART."

That's it & all attempts result in an annoying loop.

Any ideas? TIA!

Are you using a "Start Up" disk. You must boot after a format with a "Start up" disk that was created using windows.

This laptop was a gift from my brother's girlfriend's dad, who died, recently. I was looking through the favorites and found these porn sites. I was really embarrassed for this guy who died unexpectedly and didn't have time to remove the dirty links off his personal computer. So, I went around deleting some things and I must have gotten DELETE crazy, because, the next thing I know, I was given a message saying the same thing all of you guys are receiving. I went to the www.bootdisk.com website and hope that the thing I saved on a disk will work for this deceased person's laptop.
