Right click the desktop, click properties, click settings, click Advanced, click Monitor check the box "Monitor is energy Star compliant" As for the sceensaver, reinstall it. Control panel, add/remove programs, Accessories, Check the box for Screensaver.

i followed your directions for the monitor, click apply then ok, but it still won't let me set the shutdown time. when i retrace my steps again the energy star compliant box is unchecked. i know this monitor did comply with this feature. any ideas, thanks greg

The next step would be, open device manager, click the plus by Monitor, click on the entry that shows and click Remove. Close device manager and restart the computer. This will "refresh" the driver installation.

Yep. Restart and Windows will reinstall it, ensuring the proper drivers and driver file paths.

You're welcome. Sometimes Windows loses the correct path ( in the registry ) to a driver needed to operate a device properly, so windows then "defaults" to a driver it can "live with." The correct files are still there, but Windows can't find them. When you remove a device from device manager, it clears the registry entry for the device, so that when you restart, Windows says "Ok new device." It then queries the device chipset for the manufacturer and model number and then searches its' list of .inf files for a match. When found, the .inf file tells windows what driver to use, then re-writes the correct info in the registry and Bingo, you're back in business.
