When I turn on my computer it starts up right and then I get into my desktop and theres nothing there! All there is is the wallpaper and the mouse with the hour glass. Its not trying to turn it on because I let it load for a long time. When I hit the windows key on the keyboard a window pops up and in the corner it says tasks. I can acess the rest of the computer through it but still no desktop. I tried reinstalling win95 but I don't have the OEM number. What should I do?

See if you can retrieve your C-of-A number using this method:

If you CAN'T get Windows started, you can extract the C-of-A from the SYSTEM.1ST file using DOS. At the DOS prompt, type "EDIT  C:\SYSTEM.1ST", and press ENTER. Use SEARCH to find "-OEM-" or "PRODUCTID". There's your C-of-A.

(I stole this absolutely brilliant DOS tip from Gerry Kroll.)
