when i get on the computer i get an error message sayin missing or corrupted file \factonly\cdrom.sys ERROR on config.sys line 22 and i cant get online with it because when i try to connect it freeses while its dialing and i kno the lines working because my other machine connects just fine. please help :)

This has to do with a CDROM driver for use when the computer is running DOS. It's got nothing to do with dialling an Internet Service Provider.

You need to be a bit more specific about "freezes when dialling". Do you hear any tones at all? If not, I'd suspect your modem has died.

Boot the machine to a command prompt (dos mode ) Type: edit config.sys and press enter. arrow down to the line that reads \factonly\cdrom.sys and add the letters rem and a blank space at the beginning of the line. Press the letter f for file, arrow down to save and press enter. Then f again and arrow down to exit and press enter. Restart the computer.
