Down load Adaware and run it..freeware, it sounds like spyware is hijacking your
browser...this should clean that up.

You should also download Spybot Search and Destroy. Update both it and Ad-aware
before running it. Post back and tell us how that goes.

It's a variant of the CWSearch hijacker, and a difficult one to remove. Follow all
these instructions: Download the CWShredder.exe on the bottom of this page, and run
it:
CoolWebSearch Chronicles Direct download: CWShredder.exe
The CWShredder.exe can be run from your desktop. It needs no installing. Close all
browser windows and run it offline. "The trojan may execute again after rebooting",
so "run the Shredder again after reboot". Keep the Shredder tool on hand and Check
for Updates frequently using the update feature within the Shredder and replace
the previous download, overwrite it.
Clear out your temp files. In Internet Options, under the General tab, click the
Delete temporary internet files, choose to delete all Offline content. Also, go to
Start - Find - Files or folders - in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit -
select all - File - delete. Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and
C:\temp folder, if you have one. Empty Recycle bin.
Download and install SpywareBlaster to block bad ActiveX Control installs, in addition
to other features included. Be sure to check for and download updates after installing
it, and frequently thereafter. SpywareGuard is available here also: SpywareBlaster
Download Spybot SnD Close all running programs, install then reboot.
Start it and go online and press 'search for updates' tab. (NOTE: if you have problems,
select the US or Australian mirror site to download updates from). Download all updates
that aren't optional. Close all browser windows and run the scan. When it's finished,
'Check All', and fix everything SpybotSD labels in RED. Reboot.
If it's still not taken care of, after following the previous instructions, run HijackThis
and post the log. HijackThis Unzip 'HT' into a new folder. Close all browser
windows and run it offline. Double click the .Exe file to run it. Choose Scan. It'll
display a list. Most of the entries listed are necessary or required entries. Don't
fix anything, until you know which items to fix. Check here for a description of
the entries in the log: HijackThisTutorial
After the scan is finished, the Scan button will turn into Save Log. Press that and
copy/paste the contents in a post. Before posting your message, choose this Option:
Check this box to preserve your spacing, etc....

DO NOT save HiJackThis! to the desktop. Save it on the HD in it's own folder, otherwise
you are going to get the backups it makes sprayed all over hell and gone on your
desktop.

Problem: When starting MSIE I get a web search page named “about:blank”.
Solution:
1) Copy “Hijackthis” on a hard disk, different from the hard disk where MSIE is;
2) Run Hijackthis and delete everything, having to do with obo, dgeedka.dll, about:blank;
3) Go to the registry, search and delete all instances of “about:blank”
4) Reboot in safe mode
5) Log in as Administrator or as a User with admin rights
6) Delete file: %systemroot%\Windows\System32\dgeedka.dl
7) Reboot
8) Open MSIE – it should open to a blank page, although the address line may still
show “abot:blank”, but it will not load it
9) Delete “about:blank” from the address bar and put your favorite website, restart
MSIE – it should now load your favorite website

I have the same issue with about about:blank
running Windows XP pro , Adaware 6.0 and spybot search & destroy all with current
updates, no luck here, would dearly love to fix it & report the %$#@ holes that have
wasted my time.
