SCU Password Unknown

I got an old OmniBook 5500CS with Windows 95 to play around with. When I boot up I get a message " warning - unexpected amount of memory - run SCU" - then I get a prompt to enter "F2" to enter SCU. When I hit "F2" I get an "Enter Password" for verification screen. I have no clue what the password is. This laptob was first owned by a bank, then sold at auction, then purchased by me. Is there some way to get around this password prompt and run the SCU????

May be the CMOS' battery

If it is the battery causing the memory installed to be questioned, in the process of changing batteries, leave it unplugged overnight without a CMOS battery at all. The amount of time for the capacitor to discharge varies, so the overnight choice should cover all bases. I'm not referring to the main battery, and I haven't mentioned looking for a Reset Jumper.

I've not seen mention of such a jumper in my own Dell Latitude Notebook PC's manual, I don't think. HP might still have a downloadable file for that Omnibook's manual, and I believe you caught on to what SCU stands for: Setup Configuration (?Utility?)

I found that if I let windows load completely and then pressed the "FN" key and the "F2" key at the same time I was able to get in SCU without using the password. When in there I was able to change the password and correct the problem I had. Thanks for the Help. Howard

About that memory amount conflict, however

If the laptop FORGOT how much memory was installed, a battery for the CMOS might have been in order anyway; if you had changed the RAM before realizing that the BIOS was passworded, IMO that would've been too odd for you not to have mentioned it already.
