Connecting to router by USB

Hi,
I have two fancy modern computers which connect to the internet through a broadband
modem/router: the BT 2wire HG1800. I spent the whole afternoon at work moving things
around to try and incorporate an old computer into the fun. The old computer has
no ethernet port, but it does have USB. Hence I moved the router over to the old
computer, and plugged everything in and it is all working well.
However, the old computer runs windows 95 and it won't let me install the BT software
to get things up and running - the software says it doesn't support win95. I have
installed the driver for the USB, it is all recognised and apparently working. However,
despite both other computers being connected by ethernet, and everything working
well, I cannot get the internet on this old computer running win95.
I don't really think I should need the BT software to get it running, but using the
internet set-up wizard didn't work. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?
I tried configuring the IP address/gateway/DHCP server etc. by copying the settings
from one of the computers that are working, but it didn't work : (

Format and install Win98SE, search eBay.

Get an Ethernet card. It's the cheapest and best solution, I think.
Unless after that you also need to install the BT software... But honestly, manually
inputting the connection details should work.
Replacing Win95 by Win98 SE just because of a pushy OS check is not the answer.

Not sure of that specific router, but try "Add new hardware" and simply install the
BT drivers, not the entire software package.

I vote for the "get an ethernet card for the Win95 box"
solution.

I second that vote! You should not use a USB Internet connection with ANY Operating
System, if at all possible.
Brand new 10/100 NIC PCI cards are going for $10 at several stores in my city. (used
= $3 to $5!)

Thanks for all the advice people.
I've never poked around inside computer boxes, but I'm guessing it's not too hard
to fit an ethernet card. That should be cheap and easy solution.
Thanks again.
