Which Version 95 to install to Recover Data from Colorado 1400 Tape

I have an 1995 Gateway P5-120 with a hard drive that crashed and need to recover the data from the internal Colorado 1400 (HP) tape backup unit. I do not have the Win 95 disk and need to know which version of Win 95 is compatible with this system. It had 95A installed. 0196 Part no. 000-37080 US OSR1 (sometimes OSR2, Gateway) 0796 Part no. 000-45234 US OSR2 0796 Part no. 000-45236 US OSR2 (+ Plus! pack) 0197 Part no. 000-59944 US OSR2.1 (+ USB patch) 1297 Part no. X03-52599 US OSR2.5 (+ USB patch + IE4.01) 1297 Part no. X03-56265 US OSR2.5 (+ USB patch + IE4.01 + Plus!) Thanks

Perry, The tape drive does not "care" which os in the w9x series you use. You do need a tape backup program that will work under win 95 and handle the 1400. Suggest you google or go to HP's website. Good luck, Don

Don,

Thanks for the reply. I did contact HP and
according to them I need to use the same
program that wrote the data. I used the backup
utility within 95. So, I am trying to find the
correct version of 95 with same tape backup app
(if this is an issue) and that is also compatible
with all the hardware. I thought I had read that
some versions of 95 are for FAT 16 and others are FAT 32 .

Perry, The earlier versions of win 95 were FAT16 and the later were FAT32. Applications running under win 95 don't know which FAT system is being used and they don't care (it is handled by the os). I don't remember, but I think the native win 95 backup applet did not handle internal tape drives. I do remember there was a Colorado Backup for win 95 that I had used at one time. If you can't find that, I would try a later version from HP's website, as long as you can run it under w95. Don
