What you are seeing is not a Windows Password but a
BIOS password for the Gateway computer. To clear it
you would need a utility from Gateway or possibly a
call to their Tech Support to clear it. Another possiblity
is to remove the CMOS battery for a while, if it has one or clear the CMOS with the
jumpers on the
systemboard, it should be marked.

If removing the battery did not clear the BIOS
password then the jumpers won't either as all they
really do is bypass/short out the battery to kill the
contents of the CMOS/BIOS memory. In this case the
only real way is to call Tech Support and see if they
can/will help you clear it with some type of a software
tool they may have in-hose as Hewlett-Packard does.

yeah. In the BIOS there is I think a power management button, or a startup password
button. click on it and remove the password, or just ask your friend. To enter the
bios, hit F8 once the computer starts starting up.
