Windows Service Pack Download

Hi...
I gave to old Win 95 Computer to an underprivileged family as their first computer.
Unfortunately as “First Timers” it wasn’t long before the computer was so “Corrupted”
that the only “Fix” available was an “F-Disk”
I did a full recovery and got it hooked up to the Web, but without the Service Packs,
Downloads and whatever else for Plug-ins and Drivers it needs; it won’t open Web
Pages worth beans.
Thanks to Bill; he is No Longer offering and Windows 95 Updates at the Microsoft
Website.
Does anybody know where I can Download these Updates?
Please!
Thanks!

You can go HERE for a lot of windows 95 info.
As well, the latest version of Internet explorer usable in 95 is 5.5 SP2. You can
get that at Evolt.org. You'll need it on most contemporary web sites.

It would be better for them use Firefox (1.5.x) or Opera as their web browser.

Thank-You! Thank-You!
I am sooo grateful to the both you who wrote and made suggestions!
With the advice from "Jack" I was able to address some of the Issues and get the
thing running smoothly.
However; getting Internet Explorer ver 3,2 working was another matter untill the
advise from "Benoit" came along.
I could get on the "net" but with only about 30% of pages showing, I could not click
and download directly from the web. So I had to go online and burn to disk all of
the software on another computer.
I tryed Mozilla Foxfire, but there were "error" messages for missing dll and I could
not get it working.
So I tryed Opera and WOW; No error messages, all items open on the browser, its FAST
and very user friendly.
Best of all, I did not have to hire a computer repair person; which I could not afford
to do but would have had to had it not been for the help I recieved from you folks!
Thank You Very Much again!
Waldemar

Because IE 5.5 is horribly insecure. Tons of exploits and bad default settings
that allow ActiveX, which is a security hole in itself.
It also has horrible web standards support, the main bad point being the wrong
support for the box model.
Letting a computer-illiterate user loose on the web with IE 5.5 is just asking
for trouble.

I should have linked this page earlier: http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/windows_95/
It tells you what you need to know to get Firefox 1.5 to run on Windows 95. In
short, update your system, and ignore the crash that happens on the first start-up,
which is caused by the Import wizard that only appears on the first start-up.
The last Firefox 1.5 update has been released recently, but it will be the last.
So I guess Opera would be the better option.
