Lost Outlook Express on upgrade/ roll back

Hi,
I just tried updateing 95 to 98SE, and it just didn't work. Many dll errors, etc.
on bootup.
Anyhow, I uninstalled it and it took OE along with it. Anyone know how to reload
it? Is is available as a standalone download. Thanks.

You'd better use another e-mail client, as that one is very insecure. Even Microsoft
doesn't recommend it.

Maybe you just lost the shortcut on your desktop.
Go to C:\program files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe. Create a shortcut by right clicking
on it.

Well, the folder is gone. I even searched the C: for msimn.exe. Gone completely.
Did a search for "Outlook Express" and there is a folder in the C:\Program files\uninstall
information\ folder. There is a dat and inf file.
I'm going to poke around the web tonight and see if I can't get an "administrators"
copy. Any ideas here?
I read elsewhere that the upgrade from 95 to 98 SE is a breeze. Well, not in all
cases. Also, the rollback can go wrong to. Next time I'll be sure to make a ghost
image first.

Hi,
I have no qualms about using OE. I've been using it for many years, and have never
had a problem. I just run the normal protections and scan for malware every two
weeks or so. For anti-virus I use both AVG and Kaspersky.
Thanks for your opinion, but I'll stick the the "standards" (IE and OE). I take
in many computers that are heavily infested with Smitfraud, Vundo, and other nasties.
So I know what is out there.
I just choose not to bury my head in the sand, but try to learn from each malware
expirence. That is what computing is all about. Right?
This particular computer is a "give away" box. Once it is up and running, it will
be donated to a needy family. I give support too. No charge.
Cheers,
Ron N.

If all fails, and you have 95B or C you can go to "Evolt.org" and download IE 5.5
SP2. That's the latest version 95 can run. Beware, it's a large download. It'll get
Outlook Express back for you.

Those so-called 'standards' are highly insecure, and don't support real standards.
IE5 is a piece of shit, and severely outdated. Viewing sites with it is a pain.

Then you'd do better to remove IE and OE from it. Before you know it it'll be
full of malware at the hands of people that don't follow best practices. Hell, with
IE5, even best practices are not enough, I speak from experience.
