Hello all ,and, HELP please. I have an old Toshiba notebook with windows 95 o/s.
I am trying to add an
HP deskjet printer; I have downloaded a driver from HP
but installing program asks for ,disk 1, of operating
system, these are long gone--. The computer was set
up for the printer but the download from HP is a latter
version. (8). What to do? Thanks

If its asking for disk 1 then it probably needs the Win95 CD for certain files. If
you don't have one then your best bet is to search eBay. If you're searching eBay
then I would suggest to buy Win98SE and do a rebuild.

Thank you Keith for your very quick reply. Yes I think it is asking for windows 95
disk. My hope was for a way around or info on how to deinstall the update and return
to the earlier version driver that worked fine
thanks.

Hi Paul:
You may have the installation files right on your
hard drive. Check for folders with labels like
C:\WIN95
C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS
or other folders that have a bunch of .CAB files
in them with labels like
WIN95_24.CAB
WIN95_25.CAB
If you find them, these are the files your driver
installer will be looking for. Just point the
New Equipment Installer Wizard toward that folder
when it asks for "Disk #1."

Jacob & Jerry, thanks for your input. I have since established that the CD drive
on the machine has a capacity of 1.28MB and the downloaded driver file is 1.86MB!!
What is a poor boy to do?
paul.

What do you mean the CD drive has a capacity of 1.28MB. The CD drive has a capacity
of what ever is on the CD.
Which file have you downloaded and from where?
So do you have a C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder?

2. downloaded from HP. File dj345en.exe .
3. I also thought that cap. of CD drive was, as the disk in it. However - My computer-
Drive D., gave the information; 1.28Mb capacity, No space.

If you do have C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder then are there any Win95 cab
files in there?

So there are enough Win95 cabs there to install your HP drivers?
If your not going to buy a Win95 CD then I would suggest you burn the C:\Window\Options
folder to a CD.
I would still suggest you buy a Win98SE CD anyway.

Keith, thanks for your reply. I have as suggested bought a windows 95 system disk
and am awaiting delivery. My concern was that with the list of some 27
cab files, which to attack? Again many thanks.

Well generally when it asks for the Windows CD it will show you the filename its
after. Therefore if you open each cab file with WinZip and look for the filename
you'll know which cab to use.
