ScanDisk encountered a data error

When I try to start Windows 95, I get the message that Wi ndows was improperly shut down. ScanDisk then starts, then stops, with the message: "ScanDisk encountered a data error while reading the FAT entry for cluster 49511. This error prevents ScanDisk from fixing this drive." What do I do now?

Try using F8 to boot to "safe mode, command prompt". Then type SCANDISK C:

Or . . .

How about running the SCANDISK from a floppy
bootdisk, just to eliminate the possibilty that the cluster
that's in trouble is holding the data the makes
SCANDISK run.

Also, I forgot to mention to check c:\scandisk.log to see which file was repaired.
It would be best to replace this file once you are running again.
