hi
can anybody provide this patch/update which fixes the bug that win95 won't run with
newer CPUs ?
i just find the amdk6upd.exe version but the problem is you have to run it in win95
, obviously it's not possible.
i read theres something like an rar archive with the needed files !?

Hi torstn.
I'm running an AMD K6-2 550Mhz with Win98SE and I don't need to install anything.
I would get Win98SE if I were you.

Are you done with spamming your Win98 SE love yet? It's not relevant to solving the
user's problem!

Use something like WinZIP to open that executable. You'll be able to extract the
files that way. Next you boot into DOS to manually place the files in the appropriate
Windows subfolders. The ini file should give some clues.

It is relevant because I'm using AMD K6-2 and I don't need anything special.
Anyway its time he moved on a bit.

Of course you don't need a patch, the issue has already been fixed in Win98 SE. Duh.
And if Windows 95 works fine for him/her, there's no reason to 'move up' to Windows
98 SE.

First you rubbish Keith Stanier's clear and simple advice to move to W98SE (the CDs
are cheap enough !), then you come up with this rambling blurb.
Why not stick to answering questions you actually have an answer for, and quit criticising
your fellow posters ?
Or, as someone put it rather nicely a few thousand years ago, "And why beholdest
thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is
in thine own eye?"

This is the Windows 95 forum for resolving Windows 95 problems, not the Windows
98 advocacy forum. Keith's "advice" does not solve the problem, but actually adds
others, and is NOT an answer to the problem.
Also, I did answer the question, which no one else seems to have done, not even
you.

Hi Torstn:
Here are some more ideas concerning installation
of the AMD patch. First, I found where MS has
moved their "official" instructions. They are now
here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q192841/
However, some readers have reported in earlier
posts on this subject, that they are not able to
get into SAFE MODE as suggested in the MS article,
and that the patch will not run in DOS mode.
Some have suggested un-zipping the patch
executable and manually installing the files in
their proper directories using an "INI" file as a
guide. I couldn't find any "INI" files in the
patch, but there are four "INF" files, the
contents of which didn't make a lot of sense to me
-- but you're certainly willing to do your own
experimenting.
I've always been intrigued with the idea of using
a product like MO'SLO to slow down the DOS
underpinnings that Windows 95 runs on. I've
tested v1.5 of MO'SLO, and it seemed to slow down
my Windows operations as advertised. I used this
command line to start it:
C:\MOSLO\MOSLO /20 C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM
Maybe Windows running at 20% speed will load on
your AMD, and let you run the patch. If you try
this method, please post back here and tell us how
it worked. This topic comes up regularly.
You can download a 15-day free trial version of
MO'SLO v1.5 here:

Oh, right. It was an INF file. My bad. I've actually done this manual installation
a couple months back. Worked great.

hi
thanks for all the great help. i have the file from the pcworld.com link. just didn't
appear to me to just try to UNPACK since it was an exe file :)
well thanks for that hint.
if it don't work i'll try that microsoft support link.
PS i could install win98 but i actually like win95 better. it appealed more to me.
i remember it ran smoothly back in the 90s and also i have some programs that run
only in win95.

I see that you've gotten the zip file and are preparing to update your Win 95 machine
with them. One approach that may help if you have a problem getting the unzipped
files onto the HD due to the endless loop CPU problem is to use another PC (if you
have one available to you). You can slave the HD you want to copy those files to,
to the other PC and copy them onto it that way. Once the unzipped files have been
placed into the correct directories your PC should be able to finally start. That's
how I had to do it with mine. Occasionally you'll hear of someone being able to get
into safe mode on the PC that has the CPU speed problem and then copy the files that
way, doesn't always work but that is another possibility worth trying.

hi
do you still remember where you put each file ?
i think it has to be divided upon 2 different system folders
