Driver for Sandisk PCMCIA card reader

Hello everyone,
Nice to see that Windows 95 is still alive :-).
I have a problem with a Sandisk memory card reader (I don't know its name exactly, something like "6 in 1"): I put it in the PCMCIA port, put a card in it (or vice versa or before boot, it doesn't matter) and after a second or two the system gets totally frozen (everything stops to move - mouse, sound, keyboard locks etc.) and hard reset is the only help.
If I do this in DOS, nothing happens (unfortunately, I can't access the card from there), so it must be a Windows (driver?) problem.

Sandisk provides neither W. 9x nor DOS drivers for this device. I spent several days searching the web, forums, driver download sites etc. - unsuccessfully.

So, please: do you know where to get functional driver for PCMCIA memory devices for DOS or Windows 95? Or just what to modify in system settings to make it work?

Oh, almost forgotten: the machine is Olivetti 910T laptop (and Olivetti makes only printers today, so there's no hope for help from this direction).

"Sandisk provides neither W. 9x nor DOS drivers for this device"

I think you've answered your own question, if the manufacturer doesn't provide a
driver, it's very unlikely anyone else does.

Are you talking about a USB stick? Did you see this thread:

Yes, I have read that thread. Is there any chance to find some similar universal driver, but for PCMCIA, not USB? The device is actually a flash disk that just connects to different port.

You could try the DOS and WIN9X PCMCIA driver for the IBM Thinkpad 600 - but no guarantees (!). However, there is a warning in the driver blurb which reads: WARNING: THIS DRIVER CAN ONLY BE USED WITH THE MACHINES ON THE SUPPORTED LIST ON THIS PAGE. USE OF THESE DRIVERS WITH ANY OTHER MACHINE IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. This suggests to me that the driver *might* well work on other machines. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/DSHY-3TLQ2L.html

Thank you, that looks interesting. Lenovo's download page is currently unavailable, but the name is a good start for googling elsewhere :-)

Must be a temporary blip on their site as I've just downloaded that driver. If you continue to have difficulties, let me have an email address and I'll swift a copy over to you - it's 1.7Mb.

I've been poking around a bit more regarding this (as I'm about to get involved myself
with a PCMCIA-SD memory card adapter, albeit on WIN98) and I've noticed that there's
a generic PCMCIA driver (well, .inf file) in precopy2.cab on the Win95B CD.

I'm wondering if you were to 'install new hardware' and direct the install to precopy2.cab,
or even extract the .inf file to a convenient directory beforehand and direct the
install there ...

Another thought is - could you substitute the PCMCIA.inf file from Win98 - or are
the systems significantly different ? (I'm well out of my depth here ...)
I've done a 'compare' between the Win95 and Win98 PCMCIA.inf files and there are
many similarities - but one difference is that the Win98 version refers to a .cat
file which doesn't appear to exist in Win95, so that may not work.

The solution I've adopted thus far regarding my own insolvable USB and PCMCIA problems
is to admit defeat and run Win98Lite on the problem machines, but maybe that solution
doesn't appeal ?

I didn't know about this .inf, will try it.

Anyway, using 98 stuff under 95 sometimes works. I remember replacing COMCTL32.DLL, because WinZip 7 needed the 98 version to configure its toolbars. It worked, but it slowed Windows down significantly, so after WinZip was customized, I restored original 95 file...
