How restore default view in Explorer?

I have a question about Set
Defaults in Explorer:

In Explorer I viewed a folder with details, rather than Large Icons - ever since then the default seems to be Details, rather than Lage Icons. (Any new folder that I open comes up in Details view, and folders that I have switched to Large Icons occasionally revert to Details.) This is very annoying, I would like to get it back to showing me most things in Large Icons. Any idea how? I am using Windows 95, OSR 2.5, with Internet Explorer 4 SP2 This happened in one copy of Win95, but hasn't happened to me in others. There must be some setting someplace that controls the default, since it clearly changed in that version. Thank you, Michael

I got the answer.
Open an explorer window.
Tools. Folder Options.
View. Click on Like Current Folder.
That should do it.

He said Windows 95. "Like Current Folder" wasn't an option until Windows 98.

I tried the "Like Current Folder" option, but I still get sorting by MODIFIED instead of NAME. Does anyone know how to solve this problem. I am running Windows 98 2nd ed.

I post the solution in the solution. Open an explorer window.

I found the answer. Open Windows Explorer and sort the veiw by name or whatever you want to be default for your open or save as dialogs to be. Then, while holding ctrl, hit the X to close Explorer. It saves the setting.

A complete write up is provided here.

Good One! I once paid Microsft $35 to get this answer, and couldn't remember the keyboard command when it happened again 5 years later. This solution should be more prominently posted.

Try setting the view as you want it and hold down Ctrl when closing window

I have a related problem. My explorer window (for instance "Exploring C:\") is split into two panes, with the left one being a folder view. I cant shake this; I want to see only the right hand pane. After closing the left pane (clicking the x) I go to view, folder options, view, like current folder, then check "Remember each folder's view settings," then close with "OK." No dice. The change doesn't stick. Holding ctrl key while closing the explorer window is also not a fix.

Thank you for this!!! It's been driving me nuts for awhile now, and I just could not figure out how to fix it. (What a *stupid* design!)

Holding down the control key while closing a folder or an application with the view set the way I want it doesn't work for me, either (windows xp). Did you or anyone find an answer? -Lenny

No fix found yet. Hmmm. Tried, when viewing the Explorer window for C:\, un-checking the View-Explorer Bar-Folders choice, then holding down Ctrl key while closing the window. No dice.

Don't know if you ever solved this, but my workaround for this type of thing is to create a shortcut for explorer.exe with a target line such as this: TARGET: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, E:\My Documents\Network Docs & Files This will open an explorer window showing the Network Docs & Files folder in single-pane view. Using "/n" after the explorer in the target line will open explorer in a 'My Computer style' single-pane window, using "/e" will open it in the double-pane "folder view". By changing the path you can open virtually any location as a starting point. You can also specify the minimized, maximized, or normal window views in the shortcut mode line. You can also drag these shortcuts to your 'Links' bar and have a whole set of your most commonly used targets... Then change the icons... Collect 'em, Trade 'em... Happy Clicking...
