Hi Heidi! I'm brand new to this site and I'm glad you were able to repair the association.
Just to let you know, there is another way to fix this problem, and is for those
who are very shy or downright afraid of making changes directly to the registry.
Instead, open up Windows Explorer and on the menu bar click [View > Folder Options...
> File Types]. Scroll down until you get to Cabinet. Double-click Cabinet to open
up an Edit box. Near the bottom where you see the Actions: box, double-click View
to open another Edit box, copy and paste the information I provided below. This
will make the necessary changes in the registry for you. The info I provided will
make sense once you begin editing the File Type associations.

CABINET (*.cab)
------------------
ICON: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL

Description of type: Cabinet
Content Type [MIME]:

ACTIONS: (NOTE---The following action for View is one line)
View:
explorer /root,{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262},%1
