My computer has a split personality Regular/Network

I kept having problems with my sytem not saving passwords and auto-dialing for my
internet
connection. Other little things were cropping up as well. I had a 3com Ethernet card
left
in when I could afford road runner and had done a complete reformat and reinstall
of Windows
98 as I had a motherboard go bad on me. Now I find I have two computers in one. When
I first
boot up I get the "network" personality that won't save passwords or auto-dial. Then
if I click on
Log Off and click yes the system sort of restarts and I have my old cooperative standard
system back
with all my passwords in place and auto-dialers, etc. How do I get rid of this wicked
"network" personality
that never asks me to log on, does not ask for a password to go on or off but resides
in there where
I want it gone? I tried messing with the network protocol and renamed the computer
what my dialup
log on name is but then when I hit Log Off the computer shut down. Upon restart it
had its' evil twin back
and I could Log Off and go to the cooperative one again. Any Ideas short of complete
restore?
