Roger: there was a LOT of things to check in those MS articles, including disabling
APM and the shutdown sound event. You might also have a look at your AV program
and disable the scan of your disk drives on shutdown. When you run msconfig click
on General, Advanced, check VGA 640x480x16 option to see if your video driver is
at fault. You could also do a file find search for "logow.sys", right-click on it
and rename it:
"logow.old" to remove the shutdown splash screen.
You haven't had this much fun since...
