You can't just arbitrarily delete autoexec.bat and config.sys without the possiblility of messing up some crucial portions of your system. Instead of that, try using the utility that comes with windows 98 to try turning things on/off in your autoexec and config. START, RUN, "msinfo32.exe". Click "Tools" on the menu. Select "System Configuration Utility" You will see tabs for autoexec and config Here you can check/uncheck any line in these files. You needn't worry about the source files, as windows only processes checked items found here.
