Hi Alyssa and fellow sufferers,
Did anyone work it out a definative answer to this, because my beast has developed
the same complaint!
I read through the forum replies and there seemed to be no clear cut solution - someone
suggested that it was the video drivers that were the wrong ones for the system but
I haven't changed them so why should they suddenly be the wrong ones?
Can you remember how your problem started (I have Windows 98)? I started my computer
and walked away, and when I came back it had switched itself off - the power light
was off. When I turned it on again it went into safe mode (come to think of it perhaps
the video driver was changed when it went into safe mode?). I turned it off again
and it started to open correctly but the display was stuck in 16 colours and 640
x 480 size. Whenever I go into settings \ display to change it, it gives me the following
message ...
"System Settings Change
You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect.
Do you want to restart your computer now? Y / N"
Maybe that is a clue, because - as I recall - when I changed display settings previously,
it would simply ask you something like "Do you like the settings? Y / N" and then
the settings were saved.
Getting desperate since I don't want to have to re-instal Windows!
Regards
Alan. Downunda
