Duh! Gee, thanks for that pearl of wisdom. I'm sure Sharon found it really helpful.

Sharon, I suspect the answer will be in your BIOS APM settings, not the Windows settings.

For example, mine has a setting (disabled) for "wake on ring", which will start the machine on an incoming phone call on the modem line. (Designed for PCs being used as fax machines.)
I also have a setting (enabled) which starts the PC from a double mouse click.
