I did it and... IT WORKED! THANKS! I hadn't done that in the past because of warnings such as the following: "Note: If you delete LOGOW.SYS and LOGOS.SYS altogether, Windows will exit to DOS instead of shutting down". But I went ahead and deleted the files and my computer shuts down just the same as always (minus the stupid blue-sky shutdown screen).
