Question about 'What to do about error messages during Windows startup'

I have a question about What
to do about error messages during Windows startup:
I'm receiving the following message on startup: "Unable to initialize virus scanning
Database files".
Windows freezes at that point and when I reboot, sends me into safe mode. Does anyone
have any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem?
