Microsoft destroyed the best feature of TweakUI on March 7, 2002.
TweakUI>Explorer>Shortcut (Arrow) Overlay choices were rendered useless.
This problem is caused by the installation of "Windows 98 Q313829 Update" covered
in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-014, both available at the Microsoft Update website.
This update covers a problem of low risk for most home users, and I would recommend
NOT installing it, unless you don't care about icon shortcut arrows.
If you already have: The only fix that worked for me (and I tried them all) was Galaxy
Master's, since there were no values in my registry under "IsShortcut" in Larry's
fix.
I have notified Microsoft Support, so they may be able to correct and reissue this
update in the future.
One can only hope. I am surprised that Microsoft hackers didn't catch this. Maybe
that is why stocks rise and FALL!
There are now millions of ticked-off icon-shortcut-arrow-haters out there, so whoever
signs-off Microsoft security updates in the future should be thinking if they wish
to remain employed.
