mono sound only after download of ie6

New computer and new speakers. Windows 98 2nd ed. Everything worked fine: stereo
sound, both speakers working. Downloaded IE6 and MSN6. After rebooting, sound in
the right speaker only. All worked well moments before. Asus A7v333, ddr333, integrated
sound (6 channel). I have worked with the company thaat built the pc. They tried
, as did I the usual stuff in multimedia. On the volume controls no stereo control,
only mono. What happened
