Networking Windows98SE to Windows2000

I have a question about Connect
to a Windows XP or 2000 system with a Windows 95, 98, or Me system over a Network:
I am running a desktop AMD K6/2-350 with Windows98SE. I recently purchased an IBM
A21P laptop w/ Windows2000 installed. The laptop came with a NIC and I installed
a PCI NIC in the desktop. Both cards tested and work. I have set-up a LAN between
the two using an RJ-45 crossover cable.
The laptop can access and read files from the designated share drive on the desktop.
The desktop however is not able to access the laptop. All protocols (NetBEUI and
TCP/IP) are installed. The desktop user name and password have been added to the
laptop.
Sometimes the desktop will not detect the laptop and the windows98 Network Neighbourhood
will "hang". I am currently able to see the laptop and desktop in the Windows98 Network
Neighbourhood, but when I try to access the Windows2000 laptop, nothing happens.
I have a single share folder on the laptop, and neither it nor the files in the folder
are showing up on the desktop.
Any ideas? I have set-up the network as described in the referenced article. I am
not that familiar with Windows2000, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve
