1) Use your WIN2K machine has the server.
2) At startup, start the WIN2K machine only.
3) Log onto your DSL connection
4) Then start your WIN98SE machine
5) On your WIN98SE machine, check in INTERNET EXPLORER, TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS,
CONNECTIONS, LAN SETTINGS - Select "automatically detect connections". Disable (uncheck)
all other options on the page.
6) The following settings need to be checked if you were using the machine on another
network
CONTROL PANEL / NETWORK / IDENTIFICATION
WORKGROUP/
NETWORK/CLIENT FOR MICROSOFT NETWORKS PROPERTIES
WINDOWS NT DOMAIN:
7) Name your client machines and give your workgroup a name using the same CONTROL
PANEL / NETWORK / IDENTIFICATION/ WORKGROUP/
8) After this, select what you wish to share on the network. Simply right click on
that folder in EXPLORER and select the SHARING option.
9) Often in Windows Explorer, or in Network Neighbourhood, you may not be able to
see the other computers. I do not know why, but that does not mean that the network
is not active. However, you could go to START/RUN/ and then type in \\Name_of_computer.
That is 2 reverse slashes, followed by the name of the computer. Click on OK. This
should bring up an EXPLORER pane showing the shared folders on the computer you have
just selected.

I hope that this gets you on your way
