FYI,
tray.exe is well replaced by QuikTray in the Resource Kit Sampler
on the Win98 and Win98 SE CD at \tools\reskit\setup.exe.
So this is a freebie.
This freebie also contains several useful utilities--
ClipTray, Microsoft File Information, WinDiff, plus
the 1,766-page book in searchable format.
After setup, look in
Start--Programs--Windows 98 Resource Kit--Tools Management Console
(aka Microsoft Mangement Console (MMC)).
The Resource Kit Tools Help provides how-to, the same help as MMC.
(In short, after installation execution
you click on the icon in the tray for QuikTray dialog boxes.)
Surprisingly, Annoyances Search returned no docs for
"resource kit" or "reskit" or "quiktray" or variations,
so I hope this is helpful.
Thank you Tom for the good lead about using msconfig--startup tab.
Thank you Annoyances.
Dale, I hope this is useful.
