Here is a response from Zone Alarms knowledge database that clearly explains LoadQM.exe
and how to remove it.
"Microsoft QMgr is on your computer as a result of installing either MSN Messenger
or MSN Explorer (or both). Microsoft QMgr is used by Microsoft for what they term
"Service Quality Monitoring." A brief explanation of this functionality is a Microsoft
server monitors your MSN Messenger or MSN Explorer login status. You can learn more
about this feature by accessing the Help and Settings menu within MSN Explorer, click
on the Privacy section. If you are using MSN Messenger, go to the Help menu and select
"Privacy Policy."
Microsoft QMgr is currently designed to launch at bootup regardless if you have MSN
Messenger or MSN Explorer configured to do so. In addition, Microsoft QMgr runs as
a service so that means it is always on, even if MSN Messenger or MSN Explorer are
not being used. Microsoft QMgr will run as a service no matter what permissions are
applied through ZoneAlarm. If you desire to eliminate Microsoft QMgr running as a
service, refer to the removal section for information on how to accomplish this.
The removal method is:
Removing Microsoft QMgr
Microsoft QMgr is placed in the root directory of Windows when you install MSN Messenger
or MSN Explorer. If you are using Windows NT or 2000 or XP, you can terminate the
Microsoft QMgr process by using ctrl-alt-del, accessing the Task Manager process
tab and looking for LOADQM.EXE. Simply highlight the entry and select "end process."
Then, you will be able to delete LOADQM.EXE from the Windows root directory (go to
Start/Search/For Files and Folders if unsure where to find LOADQM.EXE). Also, you
should remove the loadQM instance at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
If you are unfamiliar with editing the Registry, it is advised to consult technical
expertise to assist you. If you are using Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me, you
will need a third party utility to terminate a running process. You can search freeware
software tool web sites such as WebAttack for such a utility.
Worked for me. Good luck.
