I tried all above suggestions to no effect. I looked again at Startup programs using msconfig and found /windows/system/hypothet.exe - not something I recognized. Looking at this file with a viewer I found reference to cfgwiz32! I unchecked hypothet and rebooted - success! Hope this helps someone
