Genecyst speed under 98SE

I recently removed an unknown virus from my hard
drive (it had modified the MBR in some manner which
NAV 2000 refused to specify), and in doing so, I was
forced to reinstall many drivers, including Yamaha
OPL3-SA3 sound system, SYXG50 MIDI synthesizer, IR
port controllers, and such.

Now for some reason, my Genecyst program
(arguably the best Sega Genesis emulator today)
which runs under DOS refuses to run at a decent
speed. I have allocated more memory, I have tweaked
the framerate, even degradeed the sound quality to
11KHz, but nothing. The games I have are now
completely unplayable.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions that might
restore this program to its previous state.

Postscript: Its sister program, Nesticle (Nintendo
Entertainment System - yes, the 20-year-old deck)
works just fine. I ran Zelda and Zelda 2 without lag,
graphics slowdown, or sound degradation this
morning. If anyone can tell me why this works and
Genecyst doesn't, I'd be very grateful.
