If the defragmenter runs for a while, then starts over again at the beginning, this
means you have a program running. Even if you do not see a program listed on your
task bar, you do have at least one program running. That is the only reason defragmenting
goes for a short time, then starts over -- and does it several times in a row.
This is important: All other programs must be shut down, or the defragmenter may
never finish.
To see what programs are running: Push the CTRL, ALT and DEL keys at the same time,
and then let them all go at the same time. This will display the task manager. Only
two tasks (programs) should be running - EXPLORER and SYSTRAY.
If any other programs are running, use the "End Task" feature to shut them down.
Then start the defragmenter and defragment your hard disk.
