Johan:  some items from a networking checklist;

1. check that NETBeui and IPX are installed as protocols on both machines.

2. check that file and print sharing still enabled.

3. run the NET DIAG utilities on both machines(from dos prompt). 

4. name your network and use the same workgroup name on all machines. 

5. check to see that all users are logged in to Client for Microsoft Network.

6. Win98 does not always install the correct drivers for network cards. Check and 
see what drivers are loaded, and if it says REALTEK then you need to verify that 
the card is indeed using a REALTEK chipset (used in some SMC PCI cards). If the card 
is using the realtek chip, then you need to download from the web the most recent 
drivers. Don't use the ones on the floppy, and definitely do not use the drivers 
on the 98 cd. 

7. enable 'remote administration' on all machines , this is in the Passwords control 
panel.

8. only your host computer needs a firewall; but check the host activity carefully 
as some folks have found that the firewall has been the source of their network problems.
