Thanks for this helpful solution. The ONLY thing that actually worked for me was
to change the IsShortcut key as suggested here. In addition, it is necessary to
also change:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut
in order for the arrow to dissapear from URLs that you save on the desktop.
