Yvette: a Windows Protection Error means that an error occurred loading or unloading
a virtual device driver (VxD).
one person claimed that a similar problem to yours was caused by AOL.
you might try a system restore;
use the Ctrl or F8 key during bootup to reach the option "Command Prompt Only",
type at the prompt: scanreg /restore
use the arrow keys to select a date as far back as you can.
Exit and reboot (Ctrl-Alt-Del keys).
