You said that files that were "already on the hard drive" were corrupted - were these also downloaded? Or were they fine at one time and became corrupted while sitting on your hard drive? That would indicate something going on with your OS, not necessarily with your downloads. And what do you mean by "installation and zip files" - do you mean that only .exe's and .zip's are getting corrupted but not other kinds of files? You said you already reinstalled Windows -what was the registry error that you got? I don't know what more of a "major overhaul" you can do to Windows other than format and reinstall, but if the problem has recreated itself, can you isolate whether it is due to your locally running software, or whether it is coming from the server? (Did you also reinstall a program that affected your operating system?) As a side note, have you run scandisk to check for hard drive errors? The only time I have had consistent trouble with a file being corrupted from download was because of the form it was being sent in. How are you downloading these files? Are they from a particular server? Some ftp servers may send in ASCII form - try using an FTP client that allows you to set the type of transfer to ascii (or do it manually "type=ascii") - or try it in binary form and see if it helps - compare number of bytes in the downloaded/corrupted files.
