If Personal Firewall software is installed, completely remove it using add/remove
as well as manual removal, before iinstalling a new network adapter. I had to do
this for to iinstall my wireless network PC card. My failure to remove it initially
before attempting to install the new adapter resulted in my having to restore the
registry from backup just to be able to use my existing dial up connection again.
I had two half-baked adapters at that point. I could ping and see green lights, but
not connect with IE, Netscape or AIM programs, like you, till i restored the registry,
Removed (not just disable!) the P. Firewall entries in the registry and so forth
(the entire aplication) and then installed the adapter first and then the firewall
second. Windows sucks.
