Question about 'When I choose ''Shut Down'' from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the ''Please Wait'' screen' Sunday, December 22, 2002 at 7:47 pm Windows 98 Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Nobody (1 messages posted) This seems to happen on Win 98 machines connected to an MS LAN. It can easily be remedied by logging out of the Network before shutting down the computer. Do this by going Start > Log off. When Windows restarts and prompts for your username/password decline by pressing Cancel. Once Windows is up and running (this takes only a few seconds) go Start > Shut down in the usual way.
