If it is an active non-dos partition, it usually indicates the use of "disk-overlay"
software (such as MaxBlast) when the drive was formatted. THis occurs when you you
install a hard drive that is larger than the computer's BIOS can support. Most retail
replacement hard drives ship with EZ BIOS or some other form of overlay software.
Have you replaced the original hard drive with a new drive since purchasing the machine?
Unfortunately, you usually will have to delete the non-dos partition and then create
a new dos partition. THis destroys the data on the drive. I don't think PowerQuest's
Partition Magic software can change non-dos to dos in a non-destructive manner.
You could go to powerquest.com and then e-mail them, asking about safe non-dos to
dos formatting using Partition Magic. Otherwise, back up what you can and bite the
bullet and reformat. One last thing: At boot up, watch the monitor closely. Look
for something to the effect of "EZ BIOS now starting". If you see this or something
similar, let me know. You may still have an out. Good luck!
