If space is a factor, but you have a few extra bucks.... Look into getting a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch. It allows you to use one keyboard, monitor and mouse with multiple CPU's without having to plug and unplug everything. Price varies. Also you can then have just one of those "really great" monitors and use it on everything.
