Further to the tkbellexe saga, I have found that if you wish to keep RealAudio, then
the following steps need to be followed otherwise just removing it from msconfig
is not enough. Also if you look at CPU usage in System Monitor when tkbellexe is
in action, it is 100% and I believe that this is the cause of the various errors
and mishappenings!
I accept no responsibility for the following steps, but they were found in one of
the microsoft newsgroups and it has worked for me.
You will need to do this in Safe Mode in order to release the files you need to remove.
I'll assume you know how to do this. In Safe Mode,
1. Open Windows Explorer. Go to c:\program files\common files\real\update_OB. Look
for eventsvc.exe. Rename this file eventsvc.old.
You could probably even delete it if you like.
Close Windows Explorer.
2. Go to Start\Run and type regedit. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run. Look for the TKBell.exe
entry and delete it. Close Registry Editor. Restart Windows.
If you go back to Start\Run and type msconfig to run System Configuration Utility,
you'll see that TKBell is no longer in the startup group.
Good luck.
