himem.sys is missing Friday, February 28, 2003 at 12:41 pm Windows 98 Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Malcume Lievers (5 messages posted) borrowed sons laptop with win 98. installed new version of quicktax ( for win 98+) It inst. updated version (5.5 ) of internet explorer at the same time. said to restart, but this problem came up. tried shutting off, unplugging, nothing helps. the very 1st time the microsoft windows screen came up whem turning laptop on but all the other times it starts up at the c:\> & saying himem.sys is missing. tried typing editmsconfig.sys after the prompt but bad command or filename comes up.
