Thanks. I will make backups shortly of those things. Promise. ;) I should know better. I had heard they dropped support for it, but the 'good' reason I had heard about was that it doesn't support the .net framework and doesn't have the added 'MS spyware' abilities that 6.0 has, similar to what I've been hearing about with XP's software. I'm leery on the knowledge of the spyware, be it maybe rumour only, but the .net framework, or lack of, in IE5.5 was one of the main reasons for dumping it. I probably will upgrade shortly, as the salesrep is using it, and it seems to be behaving on his 98se (90mhz pentium, if you can believe it) quite well. My ISP is Ma Bell here, and I'm just off the phone with the lineman. He checked the lines, and had the office do a line test. He made a couple of alterations, mentioning some part, or couple of parts, that shouldn't be on the line, and removed them. He said they mainly only affect the speed, but who knows. He's just a linesman, so doesn't get into the ADSL modem or computer end of things. The line as far as the modem is checked out and supposedly good. He suspects if I still have problems, it could be the modem itself. Tomorrow should tell. I'm online right now, but only at 50 minutes so far. The reason for coming here and hitting you people up was in the hopes it was some buggy thing in Windows that I could fix... It may still, and if nothing else, I should end up with a cleaner Windows and a new 6.0 browser. :) I've needed to do a little housekeeping for awhile. Thanks for all your help so far. I'll keep you posted on what happens next. Once I get this connection to stay active until I decide to disconnect, I'll invest in a firewall. I've heard good things about ZoneAlarm, besides the price... I just don't need another layer of software to troubleshoot the problem yet. Robben
