Okay, I'll try.
But I didn't have Real Player in (and hadn't) when this started (error message/no
sound in WMP)
I don't like Real Player either. But, I would like something that comes up for
watching online news, etc.
I had WinAmp which worked with my audio files and CDs, but not from websites.
Oh, someone elsewhere suggested I test the sound in the DirectX, using DXDIAG (I
never heard of this before)
What it basically said:
Sound: No driver problems
TEST: direct sound test results FAILURE at Step 3 (direct sound create) HRESULT=0x80004005
generic failure.
VIDEO The file i81xdw4xdrv is uncertified (not tested by MSN hd quality labs- and
I could maybe find one that is...)
DIRECT DRAW TEST ... successful
3D rendering.... successful
DIRECT MUSIC failure at step 6 activaor the 1direct music port (I can't read my own
notes)
HRESULT= 0x80004005 generic failure.
But, nobody ever told me what, if anything I could do to fix this.
I'll try what you said. I'm thinking one little file or something is in the way,
and WMP thinks something else is using it.
Maybe from some of the cd burning software? hp RECORD NOW, NERO, CEex?
Where is the place to test and see if anything is conflicting? I have seen this
somewhere, but can't remember where.
